Attexo is pleased to see that the proposed Allawah Gas Power Generator has taken an important step forward, with the Federal Government determining the project is “not a controlled action” under the EPBC Act.

The project site is located approximately 20 km west of Biloela and 7 km north-east of Banana in Central Queensland.

With a proposed generation capacity of up to 850 MW, the Allawah Gas Power Generator is designed to provide fast-start, dispatchable power to support grid reliability during periods of peak demand and low renewable generation.

The project forms Phase 1 of the broader Allawah Energy Hub, which includes up to three heavy-duty gas turbines, a high-voltage switching station, and supporting infrastructure.

Services provided by Attexo include:

  • Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) Assessment
  • EPBC Act referral support
  • Ecological constraints assessment
  • Flora and fauna surveys
  • Threatened species assessments
  • Habitat mapping and impact assessment
  • Environmental approvals and strategic advice
  • Development of mitigation and management measures

Located on predominantly cleared pastoral land, with the final disturbance footprint limited to approximately 39.7 ha within a 1,384 ha property. Extensive ecological investigations found that the project is unlikely to result in significant impacts to Matters of National Environmental Significance.

Construction and commissioning are expected to take around 2 to 2.5 years, with an operational life of approximately 25 years.
